The Hand Series was created for the "Blackout"
exhibit in 2000. Please
view the Virtual Reality panoramic photos of this exhibit.
After the exhibit, one of the pieces was published in an undergraduate
literary and arts magazine.
This series was a reaction to comments that a photograph
and a digital image is missing the artists' hand, thus making
it less impressive. I decided to create photographs using
only the hand as a subject matter, and enlarging these images
to 40" x 60." The result was larger than life silver
gelatin prints of hands. Each piece took a personality. The
anger that motivated the creation of theses images was reflected
in many of the images such as 'Agitated" and "Piercing."
Other images explored the personality of the hand characters
I created. This was portrayed in images such as "Dissolving
Cloth" and "Initial Reaction." Many of these
images were a part of an exhibition named "Blackout"
in 2000. This exhibition was in collaboration with Jenny Price
and her subculture photography. "Nonchalant" was
published in Canvas 2001, an undergraduate literary and arts
magazine in the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
